Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Synapsis website and application (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

1. Who we are

Synapsis is an evidence-based learning platform operated from the United Kingdom. In these Terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Synapsis. You can contact us at [email protected].

2. Eligibility and accounts

• You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorised use.
• You may not share your account or allow anyone else to use it.

3. The Service

Synapsis provides tools for evidence-based learning, including notes, flashcards with spaced repetition, brain dumps, curriculum and mastery maps, mock exams, study schedules and AI-assisted features such as a tutor, question generation and feedback. We may add, change or remove features from time to time to improve the Service.

4. Free and paid plans

• Free plan: Synapsis offers a free tier with core features (including unlimited flashcards, brain dumps and notes) subject to certain limits.
• Tutor plan: our paid subscription unlocks interactive AI features, mock exams and additional capabilities. It is priced at £4.99 per month or £39.99 per year, and includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
• Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and may include applicable taxes. We may change prices from time to time; changes will not affect the current paid period you have already been charged for.

5. Billing, trials, cancellation and refunds

• Billing: subscriptions are processed by Stripe and renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled.
• Free trial: if you start a 7-day free trial, you will not be charged until the trial ends. You may cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
• Cancellation: you can cancel at any time. Your paid features will remain active until the end of the current billing period, after which the subscription will not renew.
• Refunds: except where required by law (including your statutory consumer rights), payments are generally non-refundable for the period already started. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us and we will deal with it fairly.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of all notes, flashcards, documents, images and other material you create or upload (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited licence to store, process and display Your Content solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Service to you (including sending relevant content to AI features to generate your results). You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload Your Content and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights or breach any confidentiality or data protection obligations (for example, do not upload identifiable patient data).

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of any applicable regulations or professional obligations;
• upload malicious code, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users’ data;
• copy, resell, scrape or exploit the Service or its content beyond your own personal study use;
• misuse AI features to generate unlawful, harmful, or infringing content; or
• interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, branding, text and features (but excluding Your Content), is owned by Synapsis or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own learning. You may not copy, modify or create derivative works of the Service itself without our permission.

9. AI-generated content

Some features use artificial intelligence to generate questions, feedback, explanations and marking. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or misleading. You should always verify AI-generated content against authoritative sources and your official curriculum before relying on it. AI features are study aids, not a source of truth.

10. Educational and medical disclaimer

Synapsis is a learning and revision tool. It is not a substitute for your official curriculum, examinations, professional training, or qualified instruction, and it does not provide medical, clinical, legal or professional advice. Nothing in the Service should be relied upon for the diagnosis or treatment of any patient. You are solely responsible for how you use the material you study.

11. Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may perform maintenance, and we may suspend or withdraw parts of the Service. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes where practical.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, or opportunity, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under law. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Subject to the above, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in that period.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends, and we will handle your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
